Project Title

Resource Agency for Formation of Six Block Level Networks of Elected Women Representatives in Jaunpur, Mirzapur and Sant Ravidas Nagar

Introduction

Involvement of SSK in the area of strengthening local self-governance has brought to light the fact that the elected representative need to be well aware of the roles and responsibilities functions and authorities as mandated in the state act. Keeping in view the barriers and obstacles pose towards women leadership in panchayats a massive project is launched on May 2012 in Jaunpur, Mirzapur and Sant Ravidas Nagar districts of Uttar Pradesh, with the collaboration of UNDP-IKEA. The project design is basically focused on formation of network of Women Elected Representatives takes up as an important and strong pillar so as to enable women elected representatives to discharge their roles and responsibilities effectively and efficiently so that they can influence decision making process in their respective panchayats and are able to raise their voice for entitlements.

Key Objectives

  • Situational analysis with regard to current status of network of elected representative in the state as well as their scope of work
  • Facilitating process of formation of 6 block level network of WER
  • Training of network members on the means and mechanisms related to functioning of the network
  • Proposing sustainability plan for the network and future scope of work

Activities

  • Situation Analysis related to scope of network of WER
  • Consultation workshop with local CFOs
  • Defining TOR for formation of network of WER
  • Training of field project staff on networking process
  • Block level meetings with WER for formation of Network
  • Facilitating election of network
  • Capacity building program for Office Bearers
  • Handholding support at field level in facilitation of network meeting
  • Exposure Visit of Office bearers
  • Sustainability Plan

It is envisaged that at the end of the process, WERs will be able to:

  • Have more systematic vertical and horizontal set up
  • Influence and collectively contribute in decision making process at local level
  • Raise issues concerning women rights and entitlements
  • Collectively demand for their rights and entitlements

Projected Outcomes

  • Formation of 6 block level network of WER
  • Enhanced perspective of WER on need and importance of network
  • Strengthened capacities of Women Elected Representatives and building their analytical skills so that they are able to analyze their circumstances and issues which they come across as women elected representatives.
  • Enhanced negotiation skills of WER.
