Gender Mainstreaming
Gender
and development are inextricably interlinked. Women are a neglected
and excluded sector in all spheres, more so in development. Though
many NGOs work on women empowerment, it is purely project-based
and for the target groups. Hardly any CSO has a clear, documented
gender policy. As a result, women are unable to enter the mainstream,
except for a few and are either ignored or remain on the fringes.
To develop sensitivity on the issue of Gender among CSOs and orient
them on the relevance and significance of developing an appropriate
Gender Policy in their own organisation, a workshop cum-training
on Gender Sensitisation was organised to sensitise the CSOs on
the gender issue. 19 participants participated in the training
who were assisted in formulating back home plans to implement
the learning in their respective CSOs. 4 CSOs will be identified
and supported in formulating gender policy. Process documentation
of gender policy formulation in the identified Organisation too.

Gender focal
persons were identified from the partner organisations and
three days residential training (22-25 August 2007) on Gender
Sensitisation was organised for them. The key concepts of
gender, gender mainstreaming at programme level and at
organizational level were some of the issues taken up in the
training. Process for the formation of CASH (Committee Against
Sexual Harassment) committee was also discussed and an action
plan was developed accordingly in order to facilitate the
formation of CASH committee in the partner organizations. On the
basis of the action plan 4 organizations were identified and a
visit was made to these organizations. Discussion was carried
with the organizational heads and staffs and gender related
policies practiced by the organization have been documented.
