Assistance to Integrate Local Self Governance in regular program

The main aspect of this program is capacity building of
partner organizations of CRS, Lucknow with the guiding philosophy
of people centered development. This will ultimately result in
effective and efficient support being available to members of
Gram Sabha and Gram Panchayats at the local level. Further, the
organizations too would be able to deliver the goods and services
at the local level in an effective and efficient manner.
In this regard series of trainings were organized for CRS
partners as well as onsite support was provided to develop a strategy
for integrating their ongoing program with PRIs.
The major focus of training programs was:

Building a functional
understanding of the concept of local self-governance.
·
Roles,
responsibilities, powers and authorities of elected representatives.
·
Roles of related
government officials in PRIs, Other statutory provisions related to
functioning of PRIs.
·
Imparting information
about the rural development schemes and role of PRIs in it.
·
Accountability of PRIs
towards Gram Sabha.
·
Inter-tier linkages.
In continuation to this a 3 days (8- 10 January 2008) refresher
TOT was organized for CRS partners. Around 20 participants from
8 partner locations attended the program. The objective of the
program was as follows-

To develop an
understanding on PRIs and its inter-linkage with various
developmental programs particularly NREGA, RTI and NRHM
·
To develop an insight on process of Social
Audit.
Intense discussions were held on the process of facilitating social
audit as well as major challenges involved in the process. A mock
exercise was also facilitated on the process of social audit. There
after respective organizations prepared their action plan focusing
on the discussions held during the training. |
